No Screenshots?

My time at Epic included some secret projects! Due to a NDA I signed, I can't share any flashy screenshots or details here.
The following descriptions delve into the project goals and my design approach, giving you a peek behind what I worked on at Epic (without breaking any promises).

What is Epic?

While most of the people think I am working at Epic Games, I am actually working at Epic Systems, a leading electronic medical record (EMR) software company in the US (I am also working on exciting Europe projects too!)

Teams I Work With

With a small team of 58 designers supporting over 2800 developers, we cultivate a culture of extensive ownership on projects.
This allows me to leverage my expertise across diverse areas.

Patient Identity

Ensuring accurate and secure patient data management.

Charge Router

Simplifying the process of assigning charges to the correct accounts.

Claims and Remittance

Optimizing the submission and processing of insurance claims.

Health Info Management

Facilitating efficient access and utilization of patient health records, used to identify and define hospital services based on diagnoses, procedures, level of care, and other factors.

Billing

Streamlining the financial workflows for healthcare providers for both professional (charges for services provided) and hospital (charges for facility utilization) billing.

Challenge
Healthcare system is complicated... It is hard to understand everything all at once without any healthcare background.
What I did
→ No stupid question, and it's never too late to ask
At Epic, I've made a habit of asking questions. When I don't understand something, I'll voice my questions in meetings. Sometimes, not only does this answer my confusion, but it also uncovers new problems that no one else has noticed.
Learning resources are everywhere
At Epic, a dynamic learning environment empowers my growth. With the help of expert mentors (such as tenured Designers/QM/Developers), comprehensive training, and readily available resources, I continuously expand my knowledge.

Major Projects I Led

Charge Router Handler

Rules configuration for filtering, enhancing, and routing charges.
Scheduled release August 2024, search and filter enhancement project on going.

Generative AI Searching

Internal Project. AI integration to search engine of internal resources.

DBC - Billing System for Netherland

Design new user flow and interfaces for Netherland billing users.

Remit Image

User flow enhancement for billers to find patient payment information faster.
Scheduled release November 2024.

Identity Overlay

Ensure accurate patient data identification. Project ongoing.

Challenge
How do I effectively review designs for unfamiliar projects quickly?
What I did
→ Dig into the root of project reviews
To ensure user-centric design and efficient review, I conduct focused meetings with project teams for minor projects.  I prioritize understanding user flows, target users, and project goals.  In these quick sessions, we collaboratively evaluate if the proposed solution is the most effective way to address user pain points.
→ "10 Usability Heuristics" is my best friend
Heuristic evaluation is my go-to method for identifying usability problems. Having conducted over 80 evaluations across diverse projects, I possess a deep understanding of design best practices. This translates to a keen eye for potential user roadblocks, ensuring a positive user experience.
